Please Note: If you purchase these 3rd Party Insurance policies through these booking websites and you rent a car in Australia and you have damage, you will still be liable to the car rental company their excess (deductable). Once that is paid, THEN you can claim a reimbursement from that 3rd party insurance policy. For peace of mind one should be looking to reduce their out of pocket deductable directly with the rental company. In many cases the damage is regardless of fault as well. Alot of Americans come to Australia thinking their own cars policy will cover them in Australia, it will not. Also alot of high end credit cards have some sort of teavel cover associated with them, these credit card covers act the same way as above mentioned policies, you would have to pay the rental company the excess (unless you purchase in house policy) then take it up with your credit card company at a later date.

Not a bad video, but I’d mention that it’s worth it to sign up for car rental loyalty programs, like Budget’s FastBreak — because for putting that information in in advance, you can lots of times just skip the counter and go straight to your car (this is crucial in places like LGA).

Right now Enterprise offer $9.99 deal if you were to keep the car that you initially rented before the corona crisis you can't beat that, the $180 vehicle that I rented is now $9.99. Until this crisis is over.

Budget once tried to charge me for gas on a car I had to exchange because it was overheating in the heat of Florida…me and my mouth made sure that charge came off.

God bless you man! My Mom hit a deer in a foggy day (she is ok) and I have to rent a car so I can drop off my car at a collision place. With this whole Covid my job is laying me off for 2 weeks man and I was worried about the prices all these companies where charging me for 1 week. Thank you again, you are a blessing when I needed someone the most.

Check Yelp for ratings and comments. One particular in Ft Lauderdale is Economy, that through some of the pre-paid sites like Hotwire, etc will direct you there. I'll just say, check Yelp for daily nightmarish comments, especially with their insurance. Matt is also right about Fox. Always understaffed, and Fox at LAX is another time consuming nightmare, but again, look at Yelp, and it'll say it all. Costco seems to land the best prices, and hide nothing as they quote tax included.

I've used AutoSlash and they are AWESOME!!!! I've saved at least $60 per rental when I did rent for 3 or more days. That is now my go to when I am renting a car now….Thank you for the tip. Oh yeah you are right about using your own insurance I had a rock that cracked the windshield of the rental car and it was a nightmare dealing with the car rental place….They finally did come to an agreement with my Insurance company to do 50/50 so it would not count against me…..Thank you again for all of this info.

How come you didn’t say to use the insurance on your credit card? Such as chase cards like the chase sapphire preferred that act as primary insurance?

Also, the stacking of discounts like Costco. Do you do that right at the front desk? I always do it with auto slash, but I’d love to know if it’s worth it to do it again.

  9. Mike Holly says:

Best advice is to give the rental company a prepaid credit card because they will rob you with extra charges after you are done this way you can drain your card at the end of your rental

I recently rented an SUV from Thrifty via Priceline and accepted the Allianz insurance option. Upon telling the Thrifty desk agent, she informed me that they do not accept third party insurance policies and they would end up going through my insurance anyway. Not wanting to take the chance and waste the money, I was able to cancel my Allianz policy. Have you had experience with this? Was she just bullshitting me to sell her insurance, or is that simply the case with some companies? Personally, I think she was full of caca and it does not matter what policy I had or with whom I had it.

Have you seen weirdness when rental time periods push from 4 to 5 days? I had an issue in hawaii where it became CRAZY more expensive to rent for 5 days vs 4 days because it moved to the weekly instead of daily rate. This applied to every agency! The odd thing is you would think that a weekly rate should be cheaper, not more expensive. In fact, it was even cheaper for me to book 3 days + 2 days as independent trips rather than 5 days!

Hi Matt, I stumbled on to your channel on moments before renting a car on line. I watched this video and took your advise and booked with auto slash. My price dropped from $32 per day to $15.25 per day. Thank you for that! Also took insurance through auto slash. 7 days insurance for $63. Thanks again for the free advise.

#05 I always use their insurance cause of the way others drive. With all of these texting and driving drivers and drivers running red lights cause they were looking down at their phones you never know. #6 I always clean my rental out and go through the whole interior of the rental cause I don’t want to be charged because the person that rented before left trash in it and the the employees didn’t do a thorough inspection with the previous renter.
